Did you know?

Housing within walking distance of transit could eliminate 4,639 car trips per day between regional communities in the Roaring Fork Valley.

 Transit-Oriented Design

The red circle is a half-mile in diameter. The white line represents a quarter mile from the bus stop (red dot) on Highway 82 in Basalt.

An important part of the planning process for VelociRFTA includes locating stops, stations, and park & rides so they are convenient to existing and future planned development.

Locating transit within walking distance (generally ¼ mile) of housing makes it easy and convenient for travelers to walk to and from their stop.

Several opportunities for TOD (Transit Oriented Design) exist within the Roaring Fork Valley. Future development and redevelopment could be designed with VelociRFTA service in mind, clustering housing and retail establishments close to stops and stations so that people can leave their cars at home and walk or bike to the VelociRFTA station. TOD helps reduce the number of automobile trips, enhance livability, and preserve open space.
